Name: Lan Yuan/Lan Sizhui
Canon: The Untamed
Canon Point: Episode 50
OU/AU/CRAU/OC: OU
Age: 16

World Information: The Untamed is set in ancient China when the country was split between five main sects/clans. Each sect/clan practices martial arts - though the forms vary wildly - and magic is commonly used among those who possess golden cores. If a person is born without said core or they lose it, they are deemed mediocre and forced to take on a mundane job/lifestyle that doesn't include fighting/undoing curses etc.. Unless, of course, you are Wei Wuxian - who finds a way to still perform incredible feats without his core. But his way of handling things brings great disapproval from the majority of his peers. As a result, it is safe to say, in this version of ancient China, the people are (mostly) unwilling to bend or change - which is precisely why the Wen sect/clan is able to acquire so much power and why Wei Wuxian and those loyal to him are treated so abominably.

Personal History: Lan Sizhui (or Lan Yuan) was born Wen Yuan; he, along with the few remaining members of his clan, were rescued by Wei Wuxian after the Wen clan was defeated and held accountable for all of their evil deeds. Of course the other clans took their "justice" too far and slew those who were innocent of any foul deeds too. The elderly, women and children all fell under the blade or were tortured. Wen Yuan lost his parents that way and when he arrived at the Burial Mound - the place Wei Wuxian made safe for the remainder of the Wen clan - he was only four or five years old. The adjustment was understandably hard for him - until he grew very attached to Wei Wuxian (as well as the rest of his clan). There was never a day that he didn't have a pair of arms to run to if he cried and many times he found himself being carried or following Wei Wuxian around as he bought supplies in a nearby town.

It was in said town that he first met Lan Wangji. He was immediately drawn to the man, grabbing hold of his leg in the same fashion that he greeted Wei Wuxian. Apparently he made a decent impression on Lan Wangji, because the man bought him several toys - his favorite of which was a butterfly fashioned onto a stick so that it looked like it was in flight. He shared a meal with the two men and, even more shockingly, sat on Lan Wangji's lap (with the man's permission no less!). After that day, he freely expressed his love for both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji and he was determined to make sure they were never upset or angry with him.

However those happy days came to an end when the Wen clan was found, rounded up and taken away to be executed. Wen Yuan hid in Wei Wuxian's cave and he was the sole survivor of that slaughter. Days later, Lan Wangji found him still hiding in the cave and very ill. He had a high fever and because of said fever, he lost all of his previous memories. Lan Wangji took advantage of that loss and helped the young boy become a disciple of his clan. Thus Lan Yuan (or Lan Sizhui as Lan Wangji named him) was technically born.

Over the years, Sizhui proved himself to be an excellent student and he learned to use the guqin to communicate with spirits (a very difficult skill) from his father and teacher, Lan Wangji. Additionally his sword art is very impressive and his temperament is a perfect example of Lan teachings. By the time he encounters Wei Wuxian again, he is sixteen and the acknowledged leader of his band of Lan disciples. He has also forged a friendship with Jin Ling (Wei Wuxian's nephew) and when they are together, it is easy to see who is the calm and who is the storm. He doesn't recognize his once father at first (he only feels a vague familiarity) - they are far too busy chasing Xue Yang, the man in the ghost mask, ghost puppets, avoiding poisonous fog and so forth. It is actually Wen Ning that notices Sizhui's original identity and, with his help, Sizhui begins to recall more and more of his past.

After the true culprits behind all of the horrors the country has been suffering over the years are identified and justice is dispensed, Sizhui finally speaks to Wei Wuxian directly, revealing that he is Wen Yuan. Their reunion is sweet and obviously something they both need. Lan Yuan then travels away with Wen Ning to commemorate their fallen clan in their homeland. After that is done, he will return to Cloud Recesses - the residence of the Lan clan.

Personality: Calm, diligent, humble, loyal and empathetic, Sizhui is precisely the sort of companion you want beside you in battle. He is not afraid to admit his faults or to apologize if it means ending a conflict early (such as when Jin Ling takes offense to his opinions on Wei Wuxian). He can stay calm even when faced with ghost puppets or poisonous fog and, as a result, he is able to retain his logic when others are panicking around him.

However he too can be pushed to his limit - as seen when he was tied up in the Burial Mound cave with his fellow disciples, Jin Ling and the Jin disciples. When voices were raised in anger and harsh words were flung carelessly, he too raised his voice to put an end to it. Afterwards, however, he apologized to Lan Wangji for losing his cool. For a teenager, Sizhui is remarkably self-aware and it's clear he has modeled himself after Lan Wangji in particular, though he is far more talkative than his dear father.

Yet, unlike Lan Wangji, Sizhui also has a mischievous side; said side was first cultivated by Wei Wuxian when he was very small. Apparently Wei Wuxian taught him how to prank others with "Pictures of Beauty" (a.k.a. porn) and how to attract the eye of a pretty girl on the street. While he is very fond of those "lessons", Wei Wuxian tries to silence him when he speaks of them to Lan Wangji - and thus another of his many traits is revealed. Sizhui is truthful - perhaps to a fault. He, like Lan Wangji, refuses to lie - even if lying means he will be safer or somehow earn something he desires. However his truthfulness does have its uses. The usually sweet boy can be quite blunt when he is teasing someone and, because he doesn't lie, what sort of argument can they pose?

Over all, Sizhui is a good kid. He is a great listener and highly empathetic (as seen with his friendship with Wen Ning), an animal lover (since he was practically raised in a pile of rabbits) and someone who places the feelings of others above his own - though, it should be noted, when he does act selfless, he never lies even if a lie would comfort the person who is upset. Furthermore, though he might be prone to playing a prank or two when times are quiet, he is quick to protect those he loves no matter how far he must travel to do so. With his memories more or less returned to him, that latter trait will likely become more pronounced. He won't want to lose anyone else like he did his Wen family members.

Key themes: Family and Love.

Main Motivation: His family - whether they are related by blood or not.

Skills: ☙ He is an excellent sword fighter - meaning he uses his golden core to move in ways that might seem impossible to an ordinary person (for example: he can fly using his sword).

☙ He can perform on his guqin in battle as a defense, to calm those around him (or disturbed spirits) and to speak to spirits directly. Said guqin can be summoned into his hands with a spell and sent away as if it never existed.

☙ He has healing abilities too wherein he can use his golden core to speed up the process of healing in another.

Item: His butterfly toy from when he was a child, his sword, his robes, his headband and a portable guqin all in a Qiankun pouch (magic pouch that can hold unlimited items).

Sample: Test Drive

Notes: Since his wiki is lacking, I gave an overview of his history.
